CHAPTER 1: Nov 18, 1942
I brushed the sweat off my face as I heard another explosion. I took one look around and all I saw was blood, my friends, and shame. I thought to myself that war has no purpose, that all that happened to both sides was losing friendly soldiers who could have helped with their family lives. I thought that war was just a suicide mission with no victory but only loss.
My mind shifted to another place hiding from the war. It was… my town I grew up in. I saw my Mom pushing me on a tire swing in my backyard. Then my sister Lizzy ran out with ice cream. Lizzy was only four so she did not know much at such young age. She tripped and got the ice cream all over her face. We all laughed as she got up.
I was feeling depressed for a moment. Times like these, where I remembered family that have passed or moved did not make me feel determined enough to carry out with the war.
Lizzy is twenty with two pugs and her own house. Lizzy moved away, my parents are now divorced and I’m not doing well on my own I have to pay rent monthly and I don’t have a good paying job, but even worse I could lose everything right now my family, the war, my comrades, and my life with no way to back out of any of it. I knew I needed to win this fight and our country would be honored, I would be known, and I could get my family back together.
With that determination I swiftly pulled up from the bunker to take a shot. Blinded by a flash of an exploding bomb and all the blood of my allies, I could not react fast enough to pull the trigger. Once I saw the opposing sniper drop with that huge combustion from the explosion, I thought I was safe.
I was so naive at the moment that the sniper survived and was merely dropping so he could load in his next bullet. I fell to the ground not wasting any time. Suddenly my blood stopped circulating, my nerves went numb, I was fastly lightheaded, and I could only see the darkening, and darkening, and darkening bunker. All the medics In the bunker were busy and unable to treat me in time and I passed out onto the cold, hard, stale, blood filled bunker floor.
Sometime has passed, about an hour in the darkness overlooking death. I’m almost starting to lose hope in myself, my family, and everything. I slowly fall deeper and deeper until I feel a pushing on my chest and air cycling through my body. I’m being revived. Now I can see the bunker, the war bunker with Sgt. Ellis, the medic performing chest CPR. I sit up extremely slowly, and as soon as I do I take a deep breath and say.
“You have to let me fi…” I tried to say with all my strength through the pain.
Sgt. Ellis interrupted. “No can do soldier. Your wounds are too extreme.”
I stood up pushing Sgt. Ellis in aggravation.
Sgt. Ellis moved so swiftly enough to have the right amount of time to neutralise me.
“Uughh, Aauhh” I say in pain as Sgt. Ellis drives a needle into my back.
“Why wouldn’t you listen to me Oliver. I did not want to do this.” Sgt. Ellis replied.
I could only hear some of his sentence. I was unable to hear the rest after he drugged me.
“It should wear off in a few minutes. Let me explain some of what you missed.” Sgt. Ellis exclaimed.
While I was asleep, suffering from extreme blood loss our allies, the Russians, were nearby and decided to see If they could use our bunker for a while. They brought doctors, and a man by the name of Karalek came to me. He told Sgt. Ellis to go and fight, he would take care of me. Dr. Karalek was not only a doctor, but a man whom studied Psychology and languages as well. He was about '6 tall, and an average build. He was dark skinned, with black hair and brown eyes. When I Woke up I thought he was German, so I reached for my pistol in my right pocket. He then slapped my hand away, saying "No need for that, I am a Russian ally." He said "I will go get some supplies, stay put." As soon as he left, I got up, grabbed my rifle and put on my armor. I was a sniper, so I hung back at the bunker covering Karalek.
Karalek was back in time to see the hatch to the bunker wide open, and when he saw my empty cot, he dropped the medicine and sprinted after me, Although I was weak and unbalanced, I managed to get to the bunker in a short amount of time. I got 2 kills before Karalek tackled me. My head hit the stone ground, and I was out cold. When I woke up, Karalek was on the cot beside me, staring. I asked "Why did you tackle me?! I was doing fine!" Karalek just shook his head. "What?" I asked. He said "You are not fine Oliver." "What do you mean Karalek?" He just sat there and looked at me for a moment, then started to say something, but was interrupted by the ground shaking. All he said was "Run!" Karalek and I ran out the door as fast as possible. The grounds rumbling became louder and more intense until we both tripped and fell a long distance from the bunker. We held each other's hands and watched the ground rumble loudly beneath us. The bunker was completely out of sight and Karalek lost the supplies.
“What I meant to say before we ran was an enemy sniper was targeting you.” Karalek said depressively.
“That's fine now but before when I was sleeping I saw a buried vial of I’m not sure maybe medicine that's why I followed you out so I could show you where It Is”Karalek had a confused face
“If what you saw was real maybe It could help us in some way, I doubt It though.”
I replied “Please Karalek trust me, we are in the middle of nowhere now you have to trust me.”
Karalek took a deep breath. “All right, lead the way Oliver.”
I took a sudden turn of directions when I saw an oasis in the distance “Karalek look an oasis with water and trees for shade” I said.
“You’re right Oliver we need water and shade before anything else,”
When we go to the oasis we took off our armor and other equipment
Then took a small swim in the shade while I tried to remember my vision I had. From where we are right now It would be…
“Agh!” A Headache came out of nowhere.
“Oliver are you okay?” Asked Karalek. “Yeah.” I replied
“Give me a few more minutes.” I Said. “Okay, not to be rude but could you go a little faster?” Karalek asked.
“No need, I know where It’s at now, Let’s go.”
We Got Suited and grabbed all of our supplies, which were very limited. “It’s this way Karalkek, I’m positive.” I said with lots of happiness.
“You are kind of acting like a kid you know, slow down.” Karalek said tiredly.
“Hold on comrade, were almost there.”
Without looking to carefully I stepped and tripped on a rock covered in sand. I tried Using My elbow to stop my fall but my elbow broke straight through the vial of unknown elements. I picked up as much as I could, saving about 70% of the substance.
“Karalek this here that’s what I saw.” I said out of breathed.
“Well you wasted some by falling clumsily into the ground.”
“Karalek we still have some It’s...”
The last words I was going to say couldn’t come out. My elbow had overwhelming amounts of pain. I fell to the ground again, at first I thought It was my blood loss problem from earlier combined with the heat in the dessert but I was not suffering from any medical problems. In fact, I was at the bunker in a few seconds, but then I remembered the bunker was destroyed
"I will go get some supplies, stay put." Karalek said. I checked my elbow and there was no harm done.
“Karalek” I shouted at him.
“Don’t get the supplies.” Karalek Ignoleged me and came back.
“What Is it Oliver?” Karalek Questioned.
“Get all the supplies we need to survive an earthquake we only have 2 minutes, hurry”
“Why are you acting so strange Oliver?” Karalek asked.
“No time to explain. Meet me in the bottom floor when your done.”
Karalek shrugged his shoulders and continued on with my plan.
“We have everything we need Oliver.” Karalek said.
“Good Karalek now run this way as fast as you can, trust me”
“That’s practically suicide running in the middle of a battlefield Oliver.”
“Run and Gun let’s go hurry Karalek, run, run, run!”
Karalek trusted me into running straight through a battlefield, and Karalek seems like a nice guy I thought to myself. We could be really good comrades.
Right as we ran passed the same oasis the ground started to shake again. This time cracks formed in the ground and everything was stronger and more intense than last time. The earthquake came to A very sudden stop.
Karalek and I both fell but I made sure none of us touched the botted substance. When we got up I told Karalek what I though was going on.
“Karalek I has A weird thing I need to tell you, see that stuff” I said pointing to the bottled substance.
“I think that made me go back in time. I know It sound like I’ve gone insane but let me explain.”
“Okay comrade, I am very confused, but you had foresight of an earthquake coming. So I’ts hart to not give you a benifit of the doubt here.” Karalek exclaimed.
